Manoj Wickramanayaka

Born on 2nd June 1980, Manoj Wickramanayaka’s cricketing odyssey began amidst the sun-drenched fields of Colombo, where he first honed his skills as a sprightly youngster with a fervent ambition for the game. Drawing inspiration from his cricket-loving family, Manoj's early forays into cricket deemed him a natural behind the stumps, his quick reflexes and sure hands earning him early admiration. His dedication bore fruit as he made his professional debut for the Colombo Quicks in the domestic circuits at the tender age of 19.

Manoj’s career soon burgeoned and he carved a niche for himself, balancing his role as a dependable wicketkeeper and a versatile right-hand batsman. His batting style was characterised by an aggressive flair, always seeking to shift momentum in his team's favour with his quick scoring and innovative stroke play. Despite being primarily known for his prowess with the gloves, Wickramanayaka’s right-arm-fast bowling offered a surprising twist during crucial moments, often breaking stubborn partnerships and showcasing his broad skillset.

Over the years, Manoj became synonymous with Sri Lanka’s tenacious spirit at international tournaments. Notably, during the 2007 Cricket World Cup, his scintillating innings against England sealed a narrow victory that became a euphoric highlight.
