Welcome to Cliffe CC
Welcome to Cliffe CC, a warm and welcoming cricket club located in the stunning countryside just outside of Piercebridge in Yorkshire. Known for its picturesque surroundings and highly regarded ground, Cliffe CC is a beloved fixture in the Darlington & District League.
Our club is situated south of the River Tees at Piercebridge, adjacent to the historic Cliffe Hall, once home to the renowned Wilson family. With over a century of cricket history, this magnificent venue has hosted countless thrilling matches.
In 1922, Sir Murrough Wilson, grandfather of current owner Richard, generously donated a prestigious silver cup to the club, on the condition that it be competed for annually by clubs that share the spirit of village cricket. This Wilson Cup has become a cherished knockout competition, with the centenary celebration set for 2022—an incredible milestone for our club.
Cliffe CC boasts two teams in the competitive Darlington and District League, and our ground is not just visually exquisite but also known for producing high-scoring matches. Additionally, our location along the Yorkshire-Durham border adds an extra layer of friendly rivalry between supporters of the two county clubs.
In recent years, the club has achieved notable success, with the first team reaching two cup finals in 2022 and finishing an impressive 4th in the top flight—a remarkable accomplishment. Our second team competes in the B Division and consistently performs strongly against formidable opposition.
We always welcome new players to join our friendly and sociable club. Whether you’re an experienced cricketer or a beginner looking to develop your skills, Cliffe CC provides the perfect environment to enjoy the sport and be a part of a close-knit community. Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or are interested in joining.
Come and be a part of Cliffe CC—a club steeped in history, nestled in a breathtaking location, and driven by a passion for the game. We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to our cricket family.
