Ajit Kumar Singh's cricketing odyssey began in the dusty lanes of Kanpur, where he was born on the first day of 2003, a New Year’s spark of a talent waiting to ignite. As a child, his obsession with pace bowling only equalled his determination. Blessed with a lean, athletic frame and a natural ability to swing the ball, he quickly became a formidable force, helping his school team win regional tournaments and turning the spotlight onto himself.

Singh’s journey from street cricket to the professional arena took off when he was spotted by a scout during an inter-district tournament. This was his gateway to the prestigious Uttar Pradesh Cricket Academy, where his skills were honed under professional guidance. By the age of 16, he was already a part of the state's Under-19 team, dazzling selectors with his raw pace and a fiery attitude reminiscent of his idols.

Ajit's professional debut came in 2021, in the Ranji Trophy, where he made sure his presence was felt by taking 7 wickets in his very first match. This performance marked the beginning of a series of achievements that saw him contribute significantly to Uttar Pradesh’s victorious campaign in the 2022-23 Ranji season. Singh’s ability to swing the ball at high speeds and deliver deadly yorkers became his hallmark, earning him the nickname "Speed Surgeon".

One of the most memorable matches in Singh’s career came against Rajasthan in the 2023 Ranji final. With Uttar Pradesh needing a breakthrough during a grim fourth-day session, Singh delivered a scintillating spell, claiming 4 wickets in a single hour to tilt the game in his team’s favour. It was a display of sheer pace and precision that garnered admiration across the cricketing fraternity.

Despite his role as a bowler, Singh is no pushover with the bat. Often occupying the lower order, his right-hand batting contributes crucial runs in tight situations, complementing his all-round value to the team.

Ajit's bowling rivalry with another young paceman, Anil Deshmukh from Maharashtra, has become a narrative of its own, as both consistently vie for supremacy in domestic cricket, pushing each other to greater heights.
