Akib Hossain

Akib Hossain, born on 1st December 1999, in a modest neighbourhood of Dhaka, Bangladesh, has rapidly risen through the ranks to become one of the most dynamic all-rounders in modern cricket. From a young age, Akib was captivated by the game, often seen perfecting his wristy right-hand batting style and exploring various bowling techniques on the dusty grounds of his hometown.

His cricketing journey took flight in local leagues, where his natural flair and hunger for improvement caught the attention of domestic scouts. At the age of 17, Akib made his professional debut for Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). His versatility—capable of a fierce seam-up delivery or enticing off-breaks—gave his team an edge, and his chiselled drives and deft flicks soon made him a crowd favourite.

Among his major achievements, Akib played an instrumental role in the Dominators’ BPL triumph in 2019, showcasing not only his run-chasing abilities but also a knack for breaking partnerships with the ball. His performance against the Khulna Titans that season—where he scored a quickfire 67 and grabbed three crucial wickets—cemented his status as a key player under pressure.

Akib's international debut for Bangladesh arrived in the summer of 2022 against a formidable Indian side. It was here that he formed an intense rivalry with Indian all-rounder Harpreet Singh, a contest that would evolve into one of the most thrilling narratives in Asian cricket, reminiscent of the classic Indo-Bangladeshi tussles.
