Nikith Perera

Born on 23rd February 2002, Nikith Perera's cricketing journey began on the sun-soaked grounds of Colombo, where his precocious talent was spotted at an early age. Raised in a cricket-loving family, Nikith’s natural flair for the game was encouraged from the get-go, leading him to join a local cricket academy where he could hone his skills. As a teenager, his spellbinding accuracy and subtlety with the ball caught the attention of regional selectors.

Specialising as a slow-left-arm orthodox bowler, Perera’s natural ability to extract turn and deceive batsmen with flight and guile earned him a place in Sri Lanka's Under-19 team. His adept right-hand batting, though not his primary skill, often provided crucial lower-order runs—demonstrating his versatility on the field.

In 2021, Nikith made his long-awaited professional debut for Colombo’s premier domestic team. His breakout moment in senior cricket came during a fiercely contested domestic tournament match against Galle, where he delivered an exhilarating bowling performance, claiming five wickets for just 27 runs. This not only announced his arrival on the big stage but also stirred significant buzz about his potential future contributions to the national team.

Over the next couple of years, Nikith continued to strengthen his reputation as a key component of his team’s bowling unit. His performance in the national T20 league was particularly noteworthy, as he played a crucial role in leading his side to victory in the final, registering a tournament-best of 18 wickets.
