Sarawut Maliwan, born on 3rd January 2002 in Thailand, has emerged as one of the country’s most promising cricket talents. Growing up in a region where cricket is still blossoming, Sarawut fell in love with the game at a young age, his earliest memories filled with impromptu matches played on the dusty fields of Chiang Rai. It was clear from the outset that he had a natural affinity for the sport, his skills as a bowler catching the eye of local coaches.
Sarawut’s cricketing journey began in earnest when he was spotted at a youth tournament by a scout from the Thailand Cricket Association. At just sixteen, he was incorporated into the national development squad, where his prowess with the ball quickly set him apart. Specialising as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, Sarawut’s ability to spin the ball sharply and deceive batsmen with his flight and guile marked him as a player to watch.
His professional debut came in a thrilling T20 match against Malaysia in 2019, where he impressed with a quick two-wicket haul. Since then, Sarawut has been instrumental in several of Thailand's notable performances on the international stage. One of his finest achievements was during the ACC Eastern Region T20 tournament, where he was pivotal in Thailand’s remarkable victory over Singapore, his three-wicket spell reversing the course of a tense game, and earning him the Man of the Match accolade.
Rivalries, too, have spurred Sarawut to greater heights, none more so than the fierce contests against Singapore, where his head-to-head battles with their top batsmen have become eagerly anticipated showdowns. He often practices evolving his tactics, fine-tuning his arm ball to perfection and making it one of his signature deliveries.
Not merely a bowler, Sarawut has demonstrated his competence with the bat as well, coming through in the lower order to stabilise innings when needed. His right-handed batting, although understated, has contributed crucial runs in tight situations, underscoring his all-round value to the team.
Sarawut Maliwan continues to inspire a new generation of cricketers in Thailand, with his journey reflecting the growing participation and passion for cricket in the region. His dedication, skill, and flair have not only made him a linchpin in the national side but also a prominent figure as the face of Thai cricket on the world stage.
