Sheshan Marasinghe

Born in the cricket-loving town of Galle, Sri Lanka, on the first day of 2005, Sheshan Marasinghe seemed predestined to weave his tale on the greens of cricket fields. From a young age, his father often recounted how little Sheshan would pick up any stick he could find and swing it with vigour, mimicking his cricketing heroes. As he grew, so did his tenacity and love for the game. What began as simple backyard games with friends soon evolved into more structured play as he became a regular fixture at school tournaments.

By the age of 12, Marasinghe’s all-round skills were well recognised, both with bat and ball. As a right-handed batsman, he possessed an innate ability to read the game, combining solid technique with a painter's flair to find gaps in the field. His versatility in bowling emerged early on, never confining himself to one style. Sheshan's astute understanding of when to unleash a surprise slower ball or a sharp bouncer soon became a hallmark of his playing repertoire.

His professional debut came in the 2022 domestic season with the Colombo Warriors. That year, the young all-rounder announced his arrival with a memorable performance against the Kandy Kings, showcasing not just his cricketing skills but also a steeliness that belied his years. Despite being new, he quickly established a reputation as a formidable opponent, especially against the nation's long-held rivals, the Kandy Kings, often turning matches with either a crucial middle-over spell or a slog-over batting blitz.

Marasinghe's impact on the game was underscored during the 2023 Inter-Provincial Tournament. Leading his team against the seasoned veterans of Jaffna, he produced a mesmerizing display of both batting and bowling prowess—hitting an unbeaten 85 in the final match and grabbing crucial wickets when the team seemed on the ropes. These feats not only anchored his team to victory but also etched his name firmly as one of the upcoming stars to watch out for.
