Udana Sendanayake

Udana Sendanayake, born on the cusp of the new millennium on 1st January 2001, emerged from the sun-bathed lanes of Galle, Sri Lanka, with a fervent desire to etch his name in the annals of cricket. His journey began in his backyard, where he’d spend countless hours bowling with his cousins, and it was there that his passion for the game flourished. Spotted early for his raw talent, Udana honed his skills at the cricket-infused corridors of Richmond College, a fertile breeding ground for promising cricketers.

By the time he was old enough to take his driving test, Udana had already driven the Richmond College team to numerous school championships. It wasn't long before his potential caught the eye of national selectors, catapulting him onto the professional stage. Making his professional debut for the Galle Gladiators in the Lankan Premier League, it was immediately clear that Udana wasn't just another face in the crowd; his unerring accuracy and adaptability with the ball set him apart.

One of Udana's defining moments came against the Colombo Kings, where his scintillating spell of 4 wickets for mere 23 runs swung the match and arguably the tournament's momentum in his team's favour. As a bowler, he showcased a versatile repertoire, seamlessly shifting gears between seam and spin, keeping batsmen on a perpetual leash. His adaptability wasn’t confined to his bowling; Udana displayed a canny presence with the bat, demonstrating an adaptable approach—whether it was anchoring a flagging innings or accelerating at the death, he hardly ever got stymied by offensive strategies.

Over the years, Udana built a series of intense rivalries against the Jaffna Stallions.
