His journey in the sport began in September 2005 when he got selected to represent the Indian Under-19 team. At the tender age of 17, Abu Nechim made his first-class debut for his home state, Assam, just three months later. In February 2006, Abu Nechim played an instrumental role in India’s victory over England in the Under-19 World Cup semi-final. His remarkable figures of 4 for 14 stunned the opposition and showcased his lethal swing bowling under the floodlights of Premadasa Stadium. He concluded his Under-19 career with a match-winning performance in the final of a tri-nation series against Bangladesh, where he achieved figures of 6 for 9.

The year 2007 marked the beginning of Abu Nechim’s professional career, as he made his debut in both List-A and T20 formats. These back-to-back appearances allowed him to gain valuable experience and display his skills on larger platforms. Additionally, during the same year, Abu Nechim joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL), where he represented various teams like Kolkata Tigers, Royal Bengal Tigers, and India Cricket XI. In 2010, Abu Nechim’s talent earned him a spot in the Mumbai Indians squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played for the Mumbai-based franchise for four seasons and showcased his skills by consistently delivering impactful performances.
