Andre Adams bio

Andre Ryan Adams, a former cricket player from New Zealand, was born on July 17, 1975. Known for his versatile skills as an all-rounder, Adams was a talented swing bowler and a powerful late-order hitter, which made him a valuable asset to New Zealand’s one-day international team.

Adams made his Test debut against England in Auckland in 2002, showcasing his abilities by taking three wickets in each innings. However, a series of back injuries during the West Indies tour of 2002 hindered his progress and allowed Jacob Oram to surpass him in the pecking order. As a result, Adams lost his place in the national team and struggled to regain his spot.

Despite his setbacks on the international stage, Adams continued to shine in domestic cricket. He had a remarkable 2006-2007 season for Auckland, where he claimed 32 wickets at an impressive average of 18.78 in New Zealand’s domestic first-class State Championship. Additionally, Adams showcased his batting prowess by scoring 318 runs at an average of 39.75.

However, his achievements were marred by an incident during this period. Adams was suspended for one month after grabbing and shaking the helmet of Central Districts batsman Bevan Griggs. This suspension affected his chances of representing New Zealand in the World Cup and eventually led to the termination of his national contract in May 2007.

Undeterred by these setbacks, Adams signed a two-year contract with the Indian Cricket League in 2007. In 2008, he joined Nottinghamshire as a Kolpak player and began a fruitful association with the county. Adams quickly became a fan favorite at Trent Bridge due to his ability to exploit the responsive seam-bowling conditions. He was named Nottinghamshire’s Player of the Year in consecutive seasons and played a crucial role in their County Championship victory in 2010, taking 68 first-class wickets at an average of 24.18.

Throughout his eight-year tenure with Nottinghamshire, Adams proved to be a consistent performer, taking more than 50 Championship wickets in each of the three seasons between 2011 and 2013. His overall record for the county stands at 344 first-class wickets at an average of 24.18, including 16 five-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket match tallies. Notably, Adams’ aggressive batting style saw him hit an astonishing 31 sixes during the 2011 season, the highest tally in English first-class cricket.

In addition to his success in England, Adams also had triumphs in the domestic one-day and Twenty20 tournaments in New Zealand. He was part of the Auckland Aces team that won both titles in the 2010-2011 season and successfully defended their T20 crown in 2011-2012. Adams also had the opportunity to represent the Khulna Royal Bengals in the first edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.

After parting ways with Nottinghamshire at the end of the 2014 season, Adams transitioned into coaching and signed a three-month playing contract with Hampshire. His passion for the game and extensive experience made him a valuable asset as he began to mentor and guide younger players.

Even though Adams’ international career may not have reached the heights he aspired to, his contributions to domestic cricket in both New Zealand and England were highly regarded. With his skillful swing bowling, powerful batting, and enthusiastic approach to the game, Andre Adams left an indelible mark in the cricketing world.
