Andy Moles Bio

Andrew James Moles, born on August 14, 1960, in England, is a former professional cricketer and current cricket coach. Known for his hard work and determination, Moles enjoyed a successful career as an opening batsman for Warwickshire and Griqualand West.

Over the course of 12 seasons with Warwickshire, Moles amassed an impressive total of 13,316 runs at an average of 38.59. Despite his outstanding record, Moles never received an international call-up due to his limited strokeplay and perceived lack of mobility in the field. Nevertheless, he continued to excel in South African domestic cricket, where he played for Griqualand West in the late 1980s. During his three seasons with the team, he scored a remarkable 1989 runs at an average of 64.16.

Following his retirement from playing cricket, Moles seamlessly transitioned into coaching. In 2003, he returned to Griqualand West as their coach before being appointed as the head coach of the Kenyan national team. However, his time with the Kenyan team was fraught with internal issues and mismanagement within the board, leading to his departure in January 2005.

Undeterred by the challenges faced in Kenya, Moles took on a new role as the coach of the Scottish national team. Under his guidance, Scotland achieved success in the ICC Trophy. However, conflicts arose between Moles and some key players, and the board favored the players, resulting in Moles stepping down from his position.

Moles’ wanderlust for coaching opportunities took him to New Zealand, where he was appointed as the coach of Northern Districts. His performance in this role led to his appointment as the head coach of the New Zealand national cricket team in 2008, succeeding John Bracewell. However, just a year into his tenure, Moles once again found himself at odds with certain players and decided to step down.

Throughout his career as both a player and coach, Moles encountered various challenges, but his passion for the sport and his dedication to improving the teams he worked with were unwavering. Despite never representing his country on the international stage as a player, Moles left an indelible mark on the cricketing world through his coaching contributions.

Andrew James Moles is a former cricketer turned coach who hails from England. With an outstanding domestic record and a reputation for hard work, Moles has demonstrated his passion for the sport through his contributions as a player and coach. Despite the challenges he faced along the way, Moles’ commitment to cricket remains an integral part of his legacy in the cricketing world.
