Sandhu was a right-arm medium-fast bowler and a lower-order batsman who played for the Indian national team in the 1980s. He is known for his crucial role in the 1983 Cricket World Cup final against the West Indies, where he took two key wickets. Sandhu played for Mumbai in domestic cricket and was a part of the Ranji Trophy-winning team multiple times. After retiring from cricket, he has worked as a coach and commentator. Sandhu is well-respected for his contributions to Indian cricket.
