Reddy’s journey in cricket began when he was selected as an understudy to the legendary Syed Kirmani. He patiently waited for his opportunity and finally got his chance to represent India when Kirmani was surprisingly dropped from the squad for the tour to England in 1979. Reddy seized the opportunity with both hands and showcased his abilities on the international stage.

Making his Test debut during the England tour, Reddy displayed his efficiency as a wicketkeeper, securing eleven dismissals in the series, which set a record for an Indian wicketkeeper in England. His agility and swift glove work earned him accolades, establishing himself as a reliable presence behind the stumps.

Prior to gaining international recognition, Reddy had gained valuable experience as Kirmani’s deputy during various tours. He traveled to Australia in 1977-78, Pakistan in 1978-79, and Australia and New Zealand in 1980-81, further honing his skills and learning from the best in the game.

Not only a proficient wicketkeeper, but Reddy was also a more than capable batsman. He made his mark in the cricketing world when he led the Indian schools team on a successful tour to England in 1973. His batting prowess became evident as he consistently contributed runs for his team.
