Doug Bracewell bio

Douglas Andrew John Bracewell, commonly known as Doug Bracewell, is a talented New Zealand cricketer who has made a significant mark in the sport. Born on September 28, 1990, in Palmerston North, New Zealand, he comes from a cricketing family, with his father Brendon and uncle John also having played cricket at the international level.

During his younger years, Bracewell’s potential was evident as he was selected, alongside his cousin Michael Bracewell, to represent New Zealand in the Under-19 World Cup in 2010. Although Michael is yet to establish himself in Otago, Doug quickly caught the attention of selectors with his exceptional skills.

In October 2011, at the age of 21, Bracewell earned his first call-up to the national side for New Zealand’s tour of Zimbabwe. He made an instant impact, taking four wickets in his first two Twenty20 internationals and three wickets in his first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs), showcasing his impressive pace and control.

Bracewell’s hard work and dedication paid off when a series of injuries in the New Zealand squad led to his Test debut in Bulawayo. The young fast-bowling all-rounder did not disappoint and made an immediate impression by taking six wickets in that game. This outstanding performance hinted at his potential to become a key contributor to New Zealand’s bowling line-up for years to come.

However, it was in December 2011, during his third Test match, that Bracewell truly showcased his immense talent. In a historic victory, he took an incredible 9 for 60 against Australia in Hobart. This exceptional feat led New Zealand to their first Test win in Australia in 26 years, cementing Bracewell’s status as a rising star in international cricket.

Since then, Doug Bracewell has continued to make valuable contributions to the New Zealand cricket team. Known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, his deceptive skills have troubled many top-class batsmen around the world. He has also displayed his talent as a lower-order batsman, often contributing crucial runs to rescue his team from challenging situations.

However, Bracewell’s career has been plagued by several injuries which have hampered his progress. Despite these setbacks, his determination and resilience have allowed him to make successful comebacks and regain his spot in the national side.

As of 2021, Bracewell has represented New Zealand in all three formats of the game – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. He has taken numerous wickets and played vital roles in many memorable victories for his country. Throughout his career, Bracewell has demonstrated his ability to rise to the occasion in high-pressure situations, making him a valuable asset for New Zealand cricket.

Off the field, Bracewell is known for his humble and down-to-earth nature, earning the respect and admiration of his teammates and fans alike. He continues to work hard to improve his skills and make a significant impact on the international stage.

Doug Bracewell’s journey in cricket is far from over. With his undeniable talent, determination, and passion for the game, he has the potential to achieve even greater heights and become one of the all-time greats in New Zealand cricket history.
