Harry Podmore bio

Harry William Podmore is a talented cricket player from England who has made a name for himself with his consistent bowling abilities. Known for his accuracy and skill rather than great natural pace, Podmore has proven to be a valuable asset to his teams.

Born in Hammersmith, Podmore began his career in the Middlesex youth system. His impressive bowling skills at the death of the game caught the attention of the selectors, leading to his inclusion in the Middlesex side. Despite his height, he showed great control and avoided the temptation of bowling too short. Podmore had his first taste of success in the T20 format in 2014, where he had an extended run in Middlesex’s team.

In order to gain more experience, Podmore was loaned out to Glamorgan in early 2016. He made a return to Middlesex later that year and made an impact in his first Championship match for them, taking four wickets in a thrilling win against Somerset. Seeking more opportunities and stability, Podmore went on loan to Glamorgan, Durham 2nd XI, and Derbyshire in 2017 before eventually finding his home at Kent.

It was at Kent where Podmore truly made his mark. His consistent performances in the 2019 season earned him his county cap, a recognition of his contribution to the team. He showcased his ability to bowl long, consistent spells and ended the season as one of the county’s leading first-class wicket-takers. While his allrounder aspirations were still a work in progress, he made notable progress with his batting, scoring an unbeaten 54 against Essex.

Minor surgery to relieve a trapped nerve in his elbow at the end of 2017 enabled Podmore to bowl pain-free for the first time in a long while, and it also enhanced his pace. Kent capitalized on this development by signing him on the eve of the 2018 season, offering him the regular seam bowling role he had been seeking. Podmore quickly proved his worth by taking 43 wickets in Kent’s promotion year. He displayed his best performance against his former county, Middlesex, taking an impressive 6 for 36.

Podmore’s dedication to the sport and his desire to develop into a genuine allrounder became evident when he scored a century for the Second XI. Although a T20 spot eluded him in 2019, he became an integral part of Kent’s Championship and one-day teams, further solidifying his position in the squad.

With a promising career ahead, Harry William Podmore continues to showcase his skills as a dependable bowling allrounder. His accurate bowling, coupled with his commitment and determination, make him an exciting player to watch for both Kent and cricket fans worldwide.
