However, his undeniable potential and impressive domestic performances earned him a recall to the T20 squad for the tour of Sri Lanka a few years later.

Before his comeback, Khalid showcased exceptional form in the domestic one-day tournament, emerging as the leading run-scorer for the Karachi Dolphins.
