Kieron Pollard bio

Kieron Adrian Pollard, widely known as Kieron Pollard, is a renowned cricketer from the West Indies. Born on May 12, 1987, in Trinidad and Tobago, Pollard has made a significant impact in the world of cricket with his exceptional batting skills and all-round abilities.

Pollard’s rise to prominence began when he became the joint-biggest buy at the Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction in 2010. The Mumbai Indians invested a staggering $750,000, making him the center of attention in the cricketing world. However, this hefty price tag was not just based on his international record but on his powerful hitting prowess displayed in domestic T20 matches, particularly when he smashed 54 off just 18 balls for Trinidad and Tobago against New South Wales during the 2009 Champions League T20.

This marked a turning point in franchise cricket, as Pollard went on to dominate both the international and domestic circuits. He made strategic decisions during his career, opting out of the West Indies A team to focus more on T20s for Somerset. Additionally, he refused a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) central contract, prioritizing his availability for franchise cricket.

Over the years, Pollard improved his international record, showcasing his talent with breathtaking performances. He scored two half-centuries during the 2011 World Cup and broke his century drought by smashing a remarkable 110-ball 119 against India in a tense situation in Chennai later that year. Pollard’s explosive batting style also earned him accolades in T20 cricket, such as his impressive 15-ball 38 in the 2012 World T20 semi-final against Australia.

Despite gaining recognition as a limited-overs specialist, Pollard continues to express his desire to play Test cricket. With a commendable first-class record, including a blistering 126 on debut for Trinidad and Tobago against Barbados, he aims to be given the opportunity to represent his country in the longest format of the game.

Pollard’s journey has not been without challenges. In December 2014, he was left out of West Indies’ ODI team following a dispute between the board and the players’ association over payment structures. However, he returned to international cricket in June 2016 with an improved defensive technique and a resilient spirit. During a match against South Africa, Pollard played a key role in turning the score from 21 for 4 to a match-winning 285, partnering with Darren Bravo in a record-breaking 156-run stand for the fifth wicket.

In addition to his international success, Pollard has also made his mark as a leader. He led the Barbados Tridents to victory in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2014 and helped them secure the runners-up position in 2015.

Throughout his career, Pollard has displayed his unique hitting prowess, with his top hand frequently slipping off the bat handle as he sends the ball sailing over the wide long-on boundary. Alongside his batting skills, Pollard also contributes with his canny medium-pace bowling.

Kieron Pollard’s impact on the world of cricket cannot be understated. With his explosive power and unwavering determination, he continues to captivate fans and inspire aspiring cricketers around the globe.
