Luke David Sutton is a former English cricketer known for his abilities as a wicketkeeper-batsman. Born on November 29, 1976, in Cranleigh, Surrey, Sutton had successful spells with Somerset, Derbyshire, and Lancashire during his career.
Sutton’s cricket journey began in 1997 when he made his debut for Somerset against Pakistan A. However, he had limited opportunities that season and only appeared twice in first-class cricket. Seeking more playing time, he decided to move to Derbyshire.
In 2001, Sutton achieved a significant milestone in his career by scoring his maiden first-class century. His unbeaten knock of 110 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston showcased his potential as a batsman. The following season, he had a fruitful campaign with the bat, amassing 982 runs at an impressive average of 39.28.
Sutton’s fortunes took an unexpected turn in 2004 when he was appointed as the captain of Derbyshire following the departure of Dominic Cork and Michael Di Venuto’s injury. Stepping into the leadership role, he showcased his leadership qualities and captained the team for two seasons.

In his debut season for the Red Rose, he etched his name in the record books by scoring the highest score by a Lancashire wicketkeeper.
