Lungisani True-man Ngidi, popularly known as Lungi Ngidi, is a formidable fast bowler hailing from South Africa. With an imposing height and the ability to consistently bowl above speeds of 140 kilometers per hour, Ngidi is a force to be reckoned with on the cricket field. Equally adept at opening the bowling or delivering crucial overs at the death, Ngidi has become a regular presence in the South African cricket team.

Born in Durban, South Africa, Ngidi initially played for the Kwa-Zulu Natal Under-19s at the prestigious Khaya Majola week in 2014. His outstanding performances at this tournament caught the attention of Northerns, a prominent cricket team in the country. Ngidi then moved upcountry to the University of Pretoria to further refine his skills and develop as a cricketer.

His talent and potential as a T20 specialist were recognized when he emerged as the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the provincial Africa Cup T20 tournament. Subsequently, Ngidi was promoted to Northerns’ franchise team, Titans, and played a crucial role in their victory in the T20 campaign in 2015-16. His stellar performances continued in the following season, where he played a pivotal role in the Titans’ successful title defense.

In January 2017, Ngidi made his T20I debut for South Africa against Sri Lanka. His debut was nothing short of sensational, as he was awarded the Man of the Match for his figures of 2 for 12. A year later, Ngidi impressed even further when he made his Test debut against India in Centurion. His devastating spell of 6 for 39 in the final innings propelled South Africa to a crucial victory, giving them a 2-0 lead in the series. Ngidi’s ODI debut followed soon after, once again against India, where he showcased his skills and picked up eight wickets in three matches.

Ngidi’s ability to dominate with the ball was on full display throughout his career. Prior to the global pandemic, he registered a remarkable six-for against Australia during the ODI series. Following a hiatus from Test cricket, Ngidi returned with immense impact, taking seven wickets in two matches against Sri Lanka. He then continued his success on tours to Pakistan and the West Indies. In his subsequent encounter with India, Ngidi once again wreaked havoc, claiming eight wickets in Centurion in late 2021.
