Michael Gertges Neser is a professional cricket player from Australia.
Born in South Africa, Neser's family relocated to the Gold Coast when he was just 10 years old.
It was during his formative years on the Gold Coast that Neser's cricketing talent began to shine through.
He emerged onto the scene as a promising player in Queensland's Under-19 side in 2008-09.
From an early age, Neser showcased his skills as a pace bowler, possessing the ability to move the ball, which made him a formidable opponent for batsmen.
In addition to his bowling prowess, Neser also proved to be a handy lower-order batsman, adding depth to his overall contribution on the cricket field.
Neser made his state debut for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield and Ryobi Cup in the 2010-11 season.
However, injuries hampered his chances of cementing a permanent spot in the Queensland team.
Nevertheless, he enjoyed a strong performance in the shorter formats of the game during the 2013-14 season.
Playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, Neser claimed 10 wickets at an average of 19.90, showcasing his bowling prowess.
He was also the top wicket-taker for Queensland in the Ryobi Cup, with 10 victims at an average of 27.40.
In recognition of his performances, Neser was called up to represent Australia A in four-day matches against South Africa A in August 2014.
He also played in the Australia A series against both India and South Africa A in 2016.
Despite these appearances, Neser's breakthrough into the national team remained elusive.
Neser continued to make valuable contributions for Queensland, helping them secure the 2017-18 Sheffield Shield title and the BBL title with the Adelaide Strikers in the same season.
His outstanding performances did not go unnoticed by the Australian selectors, resulting in his inclusion in the 2018 ODI tour of England.
Neser made his ODI debut at The Oval, playing two matches in the five-match series.
Following his ODI debut, Neser went on the Australia A tour of India and delivered impressive performances in the two four-day games.
This led to his selection in Australia's Test squad for the two-match series against Pakistan in the UAE.
Although he did not make an appearance in these matches, Neser returned to Queensland and had a stellar Sheffield Shield season.
He scored 481 runs at an average of 43.72, including five fifties, and claimed 33 wickets at an average of 23.03, with a career-best performance of 5 for 15 against Western Australia.
Neser has since become a regular member of Australia's Test squad during the 2019-2020 season.
Despite his consistent performances, he is yet to receive his maiden Test cap.
However, his determination and skill continue to make him a valuable asset in Australian cricket.
Michael Gertges Neser's journey as a cricket player has been one of perseverance and tenacity.
With his impressive all-round abilities, he has become a vital part of Queensland's team and continues to push for a spot in the national side.
As he strives to achieve his dream of representing Australia in Test cricket, Neser's dedication and talent make him one to watch in the future of Australian cricket.
