Zondeki’s story begins with a unique upbringing, spending his early childhood in Zambia with his exiled uncle, the late ANC cabinet minister, Steve Tshwete. Returning to South Africa, Zondeki attended Dale College, a prestigious boarding school in the Eastern Cape, where he followed in the footsteps of another legendary South African fast bowler, Makhaya Ntini.

Zondeki burst onto the international stage with a memorable debut in 2002. In his very first ball of international cricket, he claimed the wicket of Sri Lanka’s Marvan Atapattu, catching him in the slips during a one-day international in Bloemfontein. Selected as a replacement for Allan Donald in the 2003 World Cup, Zondeki faced immense pressure to perform. However, he struggled to make an impact and faced setbacks due to injuries.
