Motganhalli Laxminarsu Jaisimha, known as ML Jaisimha, was a prominent cricket player from Hyderabad, India. Born on March 3, 1939, Jaisimha was renowned for his impeccable style and elegance on the cricket field. His unique batting technique, combined with his charismatic personality, made him a beloved figure in Indian cricket.

Jaisimha began his cricketing journey at a young age and quickly made strides in the sport. In 1954, at the tender age of 15, he made his first-class debut, showcasing his immense talent and potential. It was evident that Jaisimha had a promising future ahead of him.

In 1959, Jaisimha made his Test debut for India against England. At the age of just 20, he demonstrated remarkable maturity and skill as an opening batsman. His flair and poise at the crease became trademarks of his playing style, earning him admiration from fans and fellow cricketers alike.

Throughout his career, Jaisimha displayed exceptional form, accumulating over 2,000 runs in Test cricket. His contributions to the national team were highlighted by three centuries, each displaying his elegance and technical brilliance. One such remarkable innings came against England in 1963-1964, where he scored his highest Test score of 129, leaving an indelible mark in Indian cricket history.

Notably, Jaisimha made a remarkable impact during the infamous Brisbane Test against Bill Lawry’s Australians in 1968. Called up as a replacement for the third Test, he made an immediate impact by scoring 74 and 101, further solidifying his place as a key player for the Indian team. His ability to adapt quickly and perform exceptionally under pressure made him a valuable asset.

Jaisimha’s cricketing talents were not limited to batting alone. He also played as a part-time offbreak bowler, adding versatility to his repertoire of cricketing skills. While he never captained the Indian cricket team, his insights and strategic advice made him a trusted aide of captain Ajit Wadekar during crucial moments in matches.

After retiring from active cricket, Jaisimha continued to serve Indian cricket in various capacities.
