Peter Ingram bio

Peter John Ingram, a talented right-handed opening batsman, hails from New Zealand and has been a prominent figure in the country’s domestic cricket scene for nearly a decade. With his clean hitting and ability to convert starts into massive scores, Ingram has established himself as a formidable force at the crease.

Ingram’s journey to success was not without its challenges. After initially struggling to find his footing at Central Districts, he began to showcase his potential during the 2006-07 season when he amassed over 600 runs. This promising performance set the stage for his subsequent achievements.

The 2008-09 season proved to be a breakout one for Ingram, as he amassed a staggering tally of 963 runs at an impressive average of 63.80. These figures remain his best returns in a single season to date. Ingram’s consistent run-scoring ability was further demonstrated during the following season when he registered 530 runs in the Plunket Shield at an outstanding average of 75.71.

One particular match during this period highlighted Ingram’s exceptional talent. In a game where Central Districts were faced with the daunting task of chasing 445 runs for victory, Ingram partnered with Jamie How to achieve an astonishing win. Together, they notched up a remarkable first-wicket partnership of 428 runs, with Ingram contributing an unbeaten 245 to the record. This extraordinary performance catapulted him into the national spotlight and earned him a call-up to the limited-overs squad to face Bangladesh, despite being 31 years old at the time.

Before dedicating himself to cricket, Ingram had another passion – rugby. However, his dreams of pursuing a career in the sport were shattered when he suffered a serious jaw injury during trials. Undeterred by this setback, Ingram turned his attention towards cricket and poured his energy into the game. It is this resilience and determination that has seen him rise to prominence and achieve success in his cricketing career.

Off the field, Ingram leads a dual life as both a professional cricketer and a dedicated schoolteacher in Taranaki. Balancing these two roles, he has demonstrated his commitment not just to the sport, but also to nurturing the minds of future generations.

As Ingram continues his cricketing journey, his fans and supporters eagerly await further impressive performances. With his ability to score big runs and his proven consistency, there is no doubt that Peter Ingram has established himself as a true pillar of New Zealand cricket.
