Sikandar Raza bio

Sikandar Raza Butt, a talented cricketer from Zimbabwe, has a unique journey that sets him apart from other international players. Born in Sialkot, Pakistan, Sikandar initially had dreams of becoming a fighter pilot. He even passed the exam to join Air Force college and was one of the selected 60 individuals out of 60,000 applicants. However, his dreams were shattered when he failed an eye test in his third year.

Undeterred by this setback, Sikandar pursued his education at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. It was during this time that he rediscovered his passion for cricket and began playing the sport again as a semi-professional player. In 2007, he made his first-class debut in Zimbabwe, where his parents had settled since 2002. Although he only managed to score a half-century in nine innings, he completed his studies and returned to full-time cricket in the 2010-11 season.

Sikandar’s determination and hard work paid off, as he had a more successful season in 2010-11, scoring an impressive 625 runs at an average of 41. His performance caught the attention of the selectors, and he was given an opportunity to showcase his skills in a practice match against Bangladesh in 2011. His impressive performance in that match confirmed his potential as a cricketer, and the journey towards representing Zimbabwe began.

In May 2013, Sikandar made his international debut for Zimbabwe in an ODI against Bangladesh, becoming the 116th player to represent the country in this format. Just four months later, he made his Test debut against Pakistan in Harare, solidifying his position in the national team. By the time the 2015 World Cup arrived, Sikandar had established himself as an aggressive top-order batsman, known for his ability to carve the ball through the field.

One of Sikandar’s most memorable moments came in July 2017 when he played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s victory over Sri Lanka in a deciding ODI. Chasing 204 on a turning track in Hambantota, he contributed with a crucial cameo innings, helping Zimbabwe secure their first-ever away series win. In addition, his off-spin bowling skills were also instrumental in restricting Sri Lanka, as he claimed his best figures in ODI cricket, finishing with 3 for 21 in 10 overs.

Sikandar Raza Butt’s journey from a young boy with dreams of becoming a fighter pilot to an accomplished cricketer representing Zimbabwe is truly remarkable. His resilience, talent, and determination have made him a valuable asset to the Zimbabwean cricket team. As a player known for his aggressive batting style and useful off-spin bowling, Sikandar continues to make significant contributions to the sport and is a true inspiration for aspiring cricketers around the world.
