Stephen Moore bio

Stephen Colin Moore, a talented cricket player hailing from South Africa, has left an indelible mark on English cricket despite never achieving full international recognition. Moore, an opening batsman known for his strong front foot play, gained prominence in 2004 and 2005 when he consistently exceeded 1,000 runs for Worcestershire. However, his success waned in the subsequent years.

In 2009, Moore demonstrated his ability by scoring a century against the Australians. Unfortunately, his overall performance suffered due to Worcestershire’s poor form and rumors of potential transfers. Eventually, Moore made the decision to move to Lancashire, where his first season proved to be a mixed bag. While he notched two one-day hundreds, his contributions in the Championship were modest, tallying only 426 runs. Tragically, his season came to an abrupt end after a dislocated shoulder during the Friends Life T20 quarter-final against Essex at Chelmsford.

Despite this setback, Moore came back stronger in his second season with Lancashire. He played a crucial role in the team’s Championship victory and crossed the 1,000-run mark in first-class matches. Memorable highlights included an unbeaten 124 that secured a win over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge and an unbeaten 169 in the penultimate match against Hampshire at Liverpool.

Moore’s prowess in one-day cricket was particularly noteworthy in 2012. He amassed 581 runs in the Clydesdale Bank 40, which included a century and six half-centuries. Additionally, he accumulated 249 runs in eight T20 matches, reaching the half-century mark on three occasions. However, his form with the red ball diminished, resulting in his omission from the team after averaging a disappointing 16.50 from 22 innings. He only managed to secure two Championship matches in the subsequent season.

Following his release from Lancashire in 2012, Moore found solace and opportunity with Derbyshire. The county, in desperate need of top-order experience, signed him on a two-year contract. During his tenure there, Moore continued to showcase his talent, albeit without the same level of success he achieved earlier in his career.

Stephen Moore’s versatility and determination have made him a respected figure in English cricket circles. Although he never earned a permanent spot on the international stage, his contributions to his various teams, particularly in one-day cricket, highlight his immense potential. Moore’s journey has seen ups and downs, but he remains a noteworthy figure in the cricketing world.
