Thilan Thusara Samaraweera, also known as Thilan Samaraweera, is a former professional cricket player from Sri Lanka. Born on September 22, 1976, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Samaraweera is widely regarded as one of the most resilient and determined batsmen of his time.
Samaraweera’s batting style may not have been flashy or exciting, but his patience and solidity made him a vital asset to his team. However, a series loss prompted his recall for the tour to South Africa, where he scored two centuries and played a crucial role in a historic victory for Sri Lanka.
Although Samaraweera experienced a moderately successful year in 2012, he endured a tough time during Sri Lanka’s tour of Australia. Despite scoring plenty of runs domestically, he was left out of the squad for the home Test series against Bangladesh. With no significant Test cricket scheduled for Sri Lanka in the coming months, Samaraweera announced his retirement from international cricket in March 2013, having left an impressive mark on the game.
