Throughout his career, Mankad showcased his exceptional skills both with the bat and the ball. In Test matches, he accumulated an impressive 2,109 runs at an average of 31.47. Additionally, he took 162 wickets at an average of 32.31, solidifying his place as a reliable all-rounder. Mankad’s batting abilities were evident with his five centuries, including a monumental knock of 231 against New Zealand at Madras in 1955-56. Notably, Mankad’s performances during India’s tour of England in 1946 stood out. He became the first and only Indian cricketer to amass 1,120 runs and claim 129 wickets in a single season. His achievement remains unparalleled, as no touring player has replicated this feat since.
