The left-handed batsman’s first century for the Queensland Bulls came during a tour match against the West Indies. This feat was followed by two more centuries against Tasmania and South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. Townsend’s 121 against Tasmania came in a challenging situation, while his unbeaten 114 against South Australia showcased his temperament and resilience.

In the lead-up to the Shield final, Townsend’s exceptional display of batting prowess continued as he amassed an astonishing 311 runs for his club side, Toombul. Notably, this outstanding knock earned him the accolade of scoring the highest score in Brisbane first grade cricket.

In the 2007-08 season, he impressed in the Cricket Australia Cup, resulting in a nomination for the prestigious Academy batting program. During the subsequent off-season, Townsend traveled to Nottinghamshire, where he continued to exhibit his dominance by scoring an impressive 10 centuries in 18 matches for Edwinstowe.

Further emphasizing his versatility, Townsend displayed his proficiency in the shorter format of the game as well. Following his stellar performances, he earned a call-up to the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Twenty20 team, featuring in four matches and amassing 82 runs, with a top score of 35.
