Born on December 12, 1984, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Tanvir rose to fame through his disguised pace variations and an unorthodox action that often wrong-footed his opponents.

Tanvir made his first-class debut in 2004 and quickly established himself as an all-round talent. His batting skills became apparent as he scored five centuries, including an impressive 163 from the No. 7 position.
