Mumbai Indians Post 215 Thanks to Rickelton and Suryakumar

Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav both struck solid fifties to guide the Mumbai Indians (MI) to a formidable 215 for 7 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025. This innings came after LSG opted to field first. Young pacer Mayank Yadav, featuring in his first match of the season, claimed significant wickets, dismissing Mumbai’s captain Rohit Sharma and key player Hardik Pandya, finishing with figures of 2 for 40.

Mayank’s pace varied between 130 and 140 kph, and his clever change-ups troubled the batsmen. Rohit initially took the attack to Mayank with two sixes but was eventually caught at short third man as Mayank intelligently adjusted his line and pace.

Rickelton almost faltered early on, nearly run out for 5 in just the second over. However, he capitalised on this reprieve. Targeting bowler Prince Yadav, Rickelton found his rhythm and hit two boundaries and a six in quick succession after some inconsistent length from Prince.

Lucknow’s use of spin in the powerplay overs saw them turn to Ravi Bishnoi, who had an early chance against Will Jacks with a close lbw appeal, but it went in vain due to impact outside off. Rickelton then attacked Digvesh Rathi, hitting two sixes and a four in the final powerplay over, setting the tone for MI’s innings and bringing up his fifty off just 25 balls.

Rathi did manage some control, momentarily drying up the boundary flow, but eventually lured Rickelton into an error, caught at point from a wider delivery. Mayank’s subsequent spell was less effective, conceding 16 runs and allowing MI to reach 105 for 2 by the halfway mark.

Prince managed to craft a beautiful reverse-swinging yorker to dismiss Jacks for 29. At this point, Suryakumar shifted gears, opting to take on Bishnoi. Despite Bishnoi conceding 16 runs in an over, he managed to send Tilak Varma back to the pavilion.

A milestone came for Suryakumar as he brought up his 4000th IPL run with a deft ramp shot against Avesh Khan. He continued his aggressive stint, bringing up a key six off Prince once more. With MI at 157 for 5 as they entered the 15th over, their push for a final flourish began. However, Mayank returned to dent those plans slightly, bowling Hardik Pandya for minimal damage in the 16th over.

Despite losing Suryakumar for a quickfire 54 off 28 deliveries, late attacking strokes from Corbin Bosch and Naman Dhir pushed MI well beyond the 210 mark. Rathi ended with an expensive spell, reflecting the attacking intent of Mumbai’s batsmen.

This competitive total puts LSG under pressure, having had mixed results from their spinners, Bishnoi and Rathi, who struggled to contain the MI batsmen.
