Litton Das has been appointed as the T20I captain for Bangladesh, with Mahedi Hasan stepping up as his vice-captain for their upcoming tour. The team is set to play seven T20 international matches against the UAE and Pakistan throughout May and June.
Replacing Najmul Hossain Shanto, who resigned from the role earlier this year, Litton is no stranger to leadership. Last December, he captained a successful three-match T20I series against the West Indies, achieving a clean sweep despite Shanto’s absence due to a hamstring injury.
Litton, recognised as a wicketkeeper-batter, has prior experience leading the team in one Test, seven ODIs, and four T20Is, yet this marks his first full-time captaincy. A recent finger injury saw him exit the PSL 2025, where he had been playing for the Karachi Kings, but he has now made a recovery.
Shanto has returned to the squad alongside four other players: Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam. Hridoy also missed the previous series against the West Indies due to injury, while Mustafizur was occupied with personal matters at the time.
However, there is no place in the squad for Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Ripon Mondol, and Taskin Ahmed. Taskin is currently rehabilitating an ankle injury, whereas Mehidy’s absence is somewhat unexpected as he had been involved in the team’s leadership structure recently.
Bangladesh’s schedule commences with two T20Is against the UAE in Sharjah on May 17 and 19. This will be followed by a five-match series in Pakistan starting May 25, concluding by June 3.
Here’s the squad for the UAE and Pakistan T20Is: Litton Das (captain), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan (vice-captain), Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana, and Shoriful Islam.
This transition period offers an intriguing setup for Bangladesh under Litton’s leadership, aiming for robust performances abroad.
