Jordan Cox, the Essex batsman, faced an injury setback while celebrating his recent call-up to the England squad. He hit a century on the third day of the County Championship match against Somerset in Taunton.
The 24-year-old found himself lying on the ground clutching his left side, just above the hip, after taking a quick single off Jack Leach. Prior to this, he had been seen favouring the same area during his innings and was treated on the field before getting back up. Cox managed to hit a boundary off Leach to complete his century before opting to retire hurt. Unfortunately, he missed the remainder of Essex’s innings and did not field.
Cox had to sit out of England’s tour to New Zealand last year due to a broken finger, making his recent recall for the Test against Zimbabwe later this month particularly significant.
The England squad will gather in London next week, ahead of a training camp in Loughborough. This will be in preparation for the four-day Test at Trent Bridge from May 22 to 25. It marks the first Test match between England and Zimbabwe since 2003.
