Labuschagne to Feature for Glamorgan Before WTC Final

Marnus Labuschagne, the Aussie batsman, has confirmed his return to Glamorgan for two County Championship matches in late May. This stint aims to prepare him for the World Test Championship (WTC) final set for June.

Glamorgan welcomed Labuschagne for his fifth successive season, lining him up for the home games against Northamptonshire and Middlesex. He steps in as an overseas player, alongside Asitha Fernando, replacing Colin Ingram temporarily. Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s director of cricket, expressed his delight: “It’s great to have Marnus returning to the club again. He’s very much part of the furniture here and we’re looking forward to welcoming him back to Wales for a couple of games.”

Labuschagne’s brief spell offers Ingram a chance to rest before the T20 Blast.

There’s speculation about Labuschagne opening for Australia in the WTC final. Travis Head might slide down the order, following his opening stint in Sri Lanka. The selectors are undecided about Sam Konstas, who shone during the Border Gavaskar Trophy but lacks experience in English conditions.

Having opened for Queensland and once for Glamorgan last season (scoring 23 and a solid 111 against Middlesex in Cardiff), Labuschagne is in the fray for an opening slot.
