The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. This decision, confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), follows a series of recent developments affecting the ongoing tournament. “A formal announcement is expected shortly,” noted a BCCI spokesperson.
Prior to this decision, the IPL abandoned Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals midway through the first innings. The unscheduled halt came as airports in Dharamsala and surrounding areas were closed, necessitating alternative travel arrangements. Teams and their support staff were transported to Delhi via a special train organised by the IPL on Friday morning.
The suspension affects a tournament currently 58 matches in, include the abandoned Dharamsala fixture, with 12 group stage games remaining. These were planned for venues across Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs were due to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are all part of the affected roster of teams.
