Shaun Tait Appointed Bangladesh Fast-Bowling Coach

Shaun Tait has been named the new fast-bowling coach for Bangladesh, with a contract extending until November 2027. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) believes Tait’s coaching experience in the subcontinent will be instrumental in enhancing their fast-bowling department.

He takes over from Andre Adams, who departed by mutual consent after his tenure began in March 2024. During his time, Adams contributed to the team’s fast-bowling progress through the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy.

Taking on this role at a pivotal moment, Tait will guide Bangladesh’s bowlers through an intense schedule of T20Is, ODIs, and Tests. The immediate focus is the T20 World Cup next year, followed by preparations for the 2027 50-over World Cup.

Reflecting on his appointment, Tait expresses optimism. “It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like,” he stated. “It’s been spoken about many times recently – the young talent with the fast bowlers – which is great. This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast-bowling group and most importantly, getting more wins for the team. To have the opportunity to work with [head coach] Phil Simmons is equally as exciting and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.”

Tait’s past work includes mentoring players like Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed as coach of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) side Chittagong Kings. His coaching career spans positions with national teams like Pakistan, West Indies, and Afghanistan, and experience in leagues such as the BBL, PSL, LPL, and English county cricket.

Tait is renowned for his speed, being one of the fastest bowlers in cricket history. He represented Australia 59 times from 2005 to 2016, notably contributing to their 2007 ODI World Cup victory.
