Maddy Green Joins The Blaze on Short-Term Stint from New Zealand

Maddy Green, a New Zealand international batter, has signed a short-term contract with The Blaze for the ongoing Metro Bank One Day Cup and the Vitality Blast. This move comes as a direct result of Orla Prendergast returning to Ireland for family obligations.

Green, who played a crucial role in New Zealand’s T20 World Cup victory last October, is set to participate in the remainder of the One Day Cup’s initial segment and the first four matches of the Vitality Blast, starting on 30th May. Her tenure with The Blaze will mark her first foray into women’s domestic cricket in England’s newly structured county competition. However, she is no stranger to English shores, having been part of the Nottinghamshire women’s team in 2012 and representing Welsh Fire in The Hundred during 2022.

“I’m really excited to be here,” Green expressed. “The Blaze have been a strong side for a number of years, so it’s a great chance to join that and play a part. It’s brilliant to be back in Nottingham.”

The Blaze are currently in the second spot on the One Day Cup table, trailing five points behind Hampshire, who have an additional game under their belt. Green brings a wealth of experience with her 193 appearances for New Zealand in white-ball formats, amassing 1,708 runs in ODIs with two centuries to her name.

She has also achieved domestic success, securing multiple titles in New Zealand with Auckland and Wellington, and was part of Brisbane Heat’s triumphant squad in the 2019-20 WBBL.

Craig Cumming, The Blaze’s head coach, remarked, “We’re delighted to have been able to secure a player of Maddy’s calibre at such short notice. She’ll add extra power to our batting line-up and energy in the field, and her leadership skills and experience will complement the rest of the group.”

Green’s inclusion promises to bolster the team’s performance as they aim for continued success in this summer’s competitions.
