Rain Looms Over Crucial Mumbai-Delhi Match

The impending IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Mumbai faces the prospect of rain interference. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain over the coming days. Tuesday’s forecast also warned of rain, but it held off until around 8pm, allowing Mumbai Indians to complete their practice session, while KL Rahul’s batting in the DC nets was cut short by the downpour.

Dark clouds loomed overhead during most of Tuesday evening at Wankhede Stadium, culminating in strong winds and heavy rain. The suburbs didn’t escape, experiencing significant rainfall and thunderstorms as well.

A washout of the MI-DC match would result in the teams sharing points, putting even more emphasis on their final league games against Punjab Kings (PBKS). Rain previously disrupted MI’s last match at Wankhede, against Gujarat Titans on May 6, which they lost via the DLS method after several rain-related delays.

The Wankhede Stadium boasts an effective drainage system, preventing waterlogging on the field. However, the sand-based outfield can become soggy, with covers protecting only the pitches and surrounding square.

This upcoming match also marks the last IPL 2025 game at Wankhede Stadium, which will then host the Mumbai Cricket Association’s T20 Mumbai league from 4th to 12th June.
