Bangladesh batsman, Soumya Sarkar, will miss the upcoming three T20 internationals against Pakistan due to a back injury. In Sarkar’s absence, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been called up as his replacement.
Having already missed out on Bangladesh’s recent series against the UAE, which they lost 2-1, Sarkar’s recovery is estimated to take around 10 to 12 days. This timeline confirms he will be unavailable for the matches in Pakistan scheduled for late May and early June.
Team physiotherapist, Bayjedul Islam Khan, commented, “Following medical evaluation, it has been determined that the injury requires an extended rehabilitation period of approximately 10 to 12 days. This effectively means that he will not be available for next week’s three-match series in Pakistan.”
Initially dropped from the squad for the T20 tours of the UAE and Pakistan, Mehidy Hasan’s recent form has proven hard to ignore. He shone in the 2024-25 season, becoming the Player of the Tournament in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with 355 runs and 13 wickets. Furthermore, Mehidy excelled in the Test series against Zimbabwe, securing three five-wicket hauls and a century, earning the Player of the Series accolade.
Currently, in Pakistan with the Lahore Qalandars for the Pakistan Super League playoffs, Mehidy is joined by fellow Bangladeshis Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain. Once his commitments in the league wrap up, he’ll link up with the national team in Lahore to compete in the T20Is against Pakistan on May 28, 30, and June 1.
