Brevis and Conway Lead CSK to Commanding Total

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) delivered an impressive batting performance, reaching 230 for 5 against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2025 encounter. Standout performances from Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis, both hitting half-centuries, were crucial in setting such a challenging target on a scorching afternoon in Ahmedabad.

CSK’s mid-season additions, including the young Ayush Mhatre and local talent Urvil Patel, showed promise for the franchise’s future. The 17-year-old Mhatre, CSK’s youngest player to date, initiated the onslaught against GT with an aggressive show in the second over, capitalizing against left-arm seamer Arshad Khan for a stunning 28-run over. Despite his innings being curtailed at 34 by Prasidh Krishna, Mhatre’s efforts helped CSK achieve their joint-highest powerplay total this season, posting 68 for 1.

Urvil Patel continued the momentum, rapidly accumulating runs with successive boundaries off Gerald Coetzee, who filled in for Kagiso Rabada. He faced pressure from the spin duo R Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan but fell for 37 after being caught at extra-cover by Sai Kishore. Devon Conway, restrained at the start, opened up against Rashid Khan, striking 21 runs off ten deliveries before being bowled for 52.

“Dewald has been exceptional. His ability to innovate and hit cleanly under pressure is quite special,” Tom Moody commented on Brevis’s performance. Brevis’s knock at the death was instrumental, striking nine balls to or beyond the ropes off just 23 deliveries, ensuring CSK reached their highest total of the season.

Despite a slower innings from Ravindra Jadeja, who remained 21 not out off 18 balls, CSK managed a formidable score. Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler for GT, taking 2 for 22 in his four overs, managing to maintain control amid the CSK batting onslaught.

With such a daunting target, GT face potential involvement in the Eliminator unless they can pull off a significant chase. As the IPL season progresses, CSK’s emerging talents provide hope for continued success.
