Australia is set to visit India for a three-match One Day International (ODI) series this September, offering a key part of both teams’ build-up to the women’s ODI World Cup, which begins in India later that month. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all matches will take place at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on 14, 17, and 20 September. The World Cup is slated to kick off on 29 September.
India, alongside Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, secured direct entries to the World Cup, while Bangladesh and Pakistan qualified through a tournament held in Pakistan. Due to an agreement between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pakistan’s World Cup matches are expected to occur at a neutral venue; this follows a precedent set during the Champions Trophy when matches involving India and Pakistan were held in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has also outlined plans for India A matches, with back-to-back series lined up against Australia A and South Africa A. India A is currently playing in England and will face Australia A in September and South Africa A in November. The first series against Australia A includes two four-day matches, starting from 16 and 23 September, and three one-day matches set for 30 September, 3 October, and 5 October. South Africa A will play two four-day games beginning on 2 and 9 November, followed by three one-day matches on 13, 16, and 19 November.
Lucknow is set to host the four-day matches against Australia A, while Kanpur will see the one-day fixtures. Bengaluru will host the clashes against South Africa A at the BCCI’s new Centre of Excellence, marking its debut in competitive cricket with these matches.
These fixtures offer not only valuable practice but also a platform to test strategies and build momentum as players gear up for significant international events.
