Raza Files Racial Abuse Complaint Against Local Coach

Sikandar Raza, an established figure in Zimbabwean cricket, has made a formal complaint to the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association (HMCA) over alleged racial abuse by a local coach. This incident reportedly took place during a Vigne Cup match on 1 June, where Raza was representing Old Hararians against Rainbow Cricket Club at Old Hararians Sports Club.

Raza, a key player for Old Hararians, recounted that the coach directed derogatory remarks at him as he left the field. Requests for a statement from the HMCA have been made.

Emphasising the need for accountability, Raza stated, “If found guilty, an example should be made out of him so that stuff like this never happens again to this and future generations.”

In the match, Raza played a stellar innings, notching up 78 runs from 56 balls. His efforts contributed to Old Hararians’ imposing total of 402 for 9 in their 50-over allotment. Rainbow Cricket Club managed only 225 for 8 in 39 overs, resulting in a significant defeat by 142 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

Raza’s recent achievements include lifting the PSL trophy with Lahore Qalandars, where his performance with the bat was integral to their victory in the final in Lahore. This triumph marks his second T20 franchise success in 2025, following his win in the ILT20.

As discussions and investigations into the alleged incident proceed, it invites broader reflection on the need for respect and inclusivity within the sporting community.
