Welsh-born Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has joined Glamorgan for the rest of the Vitality Blast season, stepping in for the injured Hayden Kerr. The 37-year-old, born in Swansea, returns to his roots, bringing extensive experience from his 130 caps for Pakistan, bolstering Glamorgan’s line-up with his all-round skills.
Kerr’s injury during a match against Surrey has ended his stint earlier than planned, making room for Wasim, who has previously played 19 games for Nottinghamshire in the Blast. Additionally, his involvement with the Trent Rockets in The Hundred and a total of 390 T20 matches solidify his credentials.
Pending approval from the Pakistan Cricket Board, Wasim is set to debut in Saturday’s home game against Sussex. Glamorgan currently holds fourth place in the South Group with three wins out of five matches.
Reflecting on the signing, Glamorgan’s Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace, expressed regret over Kerr’s injury but optimism about Wasim’s addition. “It’s a real shame that Hayden’s injury is worse than we initially thought. He’s settled in really well. We hope to see him back in a Glamorgan shirt in the future. Bringing in someone with Imad’s experience and quality at such short notice is fantastic. He’ll provide us with options in both bowling and middle-order batting.”
