Yashasvi Jaiswal will again turn out in Mumbai whites next season, ending a brief flirtation with a switch to Goa. The Mumbai Cricket Association confirmed on Monday that it had accepted the opener’s request to cancel the no-objection certificate he obtained in April.
“Yashasvi has always been a proud product of Mumbai cricket,” MCA president Ajinkya Naik said in a short statement, adding that the 23-year-old is available for all domestic cricket in 2025-26.
The reversal follows a turbulent couple of months. Jaiswal had initially sought a transfer because, he wrote at the time, his family intended to relocate to Goa. That plan has unravelled, prompting a letter from the player last month asking to stay put. The MCA, surprised but hardly displeased, agreed without fuss.
Jaiswal’s ties with Mumbai run deep. He came through the city’s age-group sides, made his first-class debut in 2019 and has already logged 863 runs from ten matches at 53.93, including four hundreds. The standout effort remains 181 against Uttar Pradesh three years ago. Last season he managed a solitary Ranji Trophy appearance, versus Jammu & Kashmir, before an ankle injury – picked up in training on the eve of the semi-final against Vidarbha – forced him out.
At present he is in England with India’s Test squad. His century in the series opener at Headingley underlined his growing reputation, although the team slid to a five-wicket defeat.
Why does the U-turn matter? For Mumbai, losing a prolific left-hander in his prime would have been a significant blow, especially as several senior batters are nearing the end. For Goa the deal offered a proven top-order presence. Instead, both parties return to familiar ground: Jaiswal in the iconic cap of Mumbai, Goa seeking firepower elsewhere.
The domestic summer begins in September; barring fresh twists, Jaiswal should be on the team sheet.
