Aman Khan concedes record 123 in Vijay Hazare loss

Puducherry skipper-all-rounder Aman Khan has found himself with a record nobody wants: 123 runs shipped from his ten overs against Jharkhand in Ahmedabad, the costliest spell yet recorded in men’s List-A cricket.

Jharkhand, thanks largely to a measured 104 from Kumar Kushagra and a brisk 98 by Anukul Roy, piled up 368 for 7. Khan, one of only three Puducherry bowlers to complete his full allocation, finished with figures of 0 for 123 – an economy rate of 12.3 an over that told its own story. Puducherry replied with 235 all out in 41.4 overs, never quite threatening the target.

Until Monday the unwanted benchmark belonged to Arunachal Pradesh seamer Mibom Mosu, who had gone for 116 in nine overs against Bihar earlier this month, also in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. That contest had been notable for another reason, with 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi becoming the youngest centurion in men’s List-A history.

Khan’s senior cricket journey began with Saurashtra in 2021 before a move to Puducherry. At this month’s IPL 2026 auction he was bought by Chennai Super Kings for INR 40 lakh, having previously turned out for Kolkata Knight Riders (2022) and Delhi Capitals (2023). Twelve IPL appearances to date suggest promise, but Monday’s numbers were a jolt.

Bowling figures that ugly rarely define a career, yet they linger. Khan’s task now is the familiar one: park the bad day, keep the ball in hand, and move on.
