Surrey Women have moved early, snapping up Australian all-rounder Maitlan Brown for the opening block of the 2026 Metro Bank One-Day Cup. The 28-year-old is expected to land in London in time for the 11 April opener and, paperwork willing, will be on the park for the first eight games.
Brown is still waiting for a full Australia cap but has become a fixture in the A-squad and was on standby for last winter’s Test in India. English conditions will not be entirely new: she had a stint with Southern Vipers in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and turned out for Southern Brave in the Hundred. That recent UK experience, Surrey feel, should help her settle quickly.
“I’m really looking forward to joining Surrey this summer,” Brown said. “I’ve had a great winter in Australia, and I’m excited to keep the momentum going with a great side in London. Surrey finished last season in an incredibly strong position. Their setup is clearly one of the best in the country, and I can’t wait to contribute and learn from it.”
Director of women’s cricket Emma Calvert believes Brown’s dual skills will plug straight into an already confident squad. “Maitlan will be a fantastic addition to the squad, both on and off the field. Her depth of experience across franchise and domestic cricket gives the team a strong knowledge base to draw from. Her composure with the ball will add real depth to our bowling attack and support our ambitions to build on last year’s success. We’re really looking forward to having her at the Kia Oval.”
On paper, Brown offers brisk right-arm seam and solid lower-order hitting—useful traits on early-season pitches that can reward accuracy as much as outright pace. Surrey reached last year’s One-Day Cup semi-final, lifted the inaugural women’s T20 Blast and finished runners-up in the T20 County Cup. The aim now is silverware across formats, and Brown’s presence, even for just eight fixtures, should widen selection options during a congested April–May schedule.
In the shorter term, the signing sends a quiet message: Surrey intend to stay in the conversation when trophies are handed out, and they are prepared to import know-how to do so.
