England’s Jos Buttler and South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee are expected to return to the Gujarat Titans squad on 14th May, just ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025’s resumption on 17th May. The IPL was briefly paused on 9th May due to rising political tensions between India and Pakistan. During this period, Buttler and Coetzee were the only overseas players who left India.
The rest of the international roster, comprising Rashid Khan, Sherfane Rutherford, Kagiso Rabada, and Karim Janat, remained in India with the team. However, Rutherford will likely face a scheduling conflict, as he’s been named in the West Indies ODI squad for a series in England from 29th May to 3rd June, which overlaps with the IPL’s playoff stage. England haven’t confirmed their squad for the same series yet, but Buttler is expected to be in contention.
Currently, Gujarat Titans top the league table with 16 points, leading ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru based on net run rate. With three league matches remaining, the Titans resumed training immediately after a ceasefire was declared on 10th May, which allowed for the IPL’s continuation.
Their upcoming game is scheduled for 18th May against Delhi Capitals in Delhi. They’ll close their league campaign with two home games at Ahmedabad’s stadium, facing Lucknow Super Giants on 22nd May and Chennai Super Kings on 25th May.
The IPL organisers have released an updated schedule, announcing 13 league matches plus four playoff games still to be played. While league matches will occur across six cities – Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru – venues for the playoff rounds are yet to be confirmed. The playoffs are set to begin with Qualifier 1 on 29th May, followed by the Eliminator on 30th May, Qualifier 2 on 1st June, and the final match on 3rd June.
