Axar Patel won the toss on a 41-degree afternoon and, after a quick glance at the surface, decided Delhi Capitals would bat. Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer took the call in stride, saying the flip of the coin proved “inconsequential” because he wanted to chase anyway.
Both camps stuck with the elevens that served them well last time out. Mitchell Starc has finally joined the Capitals group but isn’t match-ready; the Australian left-arm quick hopes to feature against Rajasthan Royals on 1 May. England all-rounder Rehan Ahmed has also checked in as a like-for-like cover for Ben Duckett, though he, too, sits out today.
Patel described the Feroz Shah Kotla surface as “dry”, so Delhi may well lean on leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam as their Impact Player when it is time to defend. If they prefer extra pace, seamer Auqib Nabi remains on standby.
Punjab appear settled. Should they be chasing something sizable, Nehal Wadhera is the obvious Impact option to bolster the batting.
Form and numbers are with the visitors. Kings sit top of the table on 11 points from six matches and remain unbeaten. Capitals, by contrast, have split their opening six and hover in mid-table on six points.

Quick take
• Heat may push bowlers to shorter spells; spinners could have a bigger say.
• Kings’ balanced attack has delivered in every phase so far, but Delhi’s top three showed signs of clicking during their last outing.
• The home crowd will want early runs; anything under 180 might feel light on this ground.
The stage is set; now it is over to the players to see whether Delhi’s brave call brings much-needed momentum or merely hands Punjab another comfortable chase.
