Ebadot Hossain Recalled for Bangladesh’s SL Test Series

Ebadot Hossain has been named in Bangladesh’s 16-man squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, marking his return to the national team after nearly two years. He has successfully recovered from an ACL surgery following an injury sustained during an ODI against Afghanistan in July 2023. Litton Das is also back in the Test side after a break during the Zimbabwe series in April.

However, the selectors have decided to leave out Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Tanvir Islam, and Tanzim Hasan for these matches. Taskin Ahmed is still on the mend from an ankle injury and wasn’t considered fit enough for selection.

Ebadot’s comeback is certainly positive news for the team. He participated in 27 competitive fixtures during the 2024-25 season, including three first-class games, one of which was against the touring New Zealand A team last month. The 31-year-old fast bowler has previously taken 42 wickets in 20 Tests for Bangladesh.

Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad also makes a return, having been part of the squad against South Africa and the West Indies last year. Murad has played just three first-class matches this past season, as he was involved with the senior team’s tour during the National Cricket League of 2024-25.

This series marks the beginning of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh last played a Test series against Zimbabwe in April, which ended in a draw.

The Bangladesh team is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on June 13, with the first Test commencing in Galle on June 17. The second Test follows at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket ground in Colombo from June 25. The tour will also include three ODIs and three T20Is, concluding on July 16.
