Shreyas Iyer didn’t bother with long deliberations. Having had a quick look at a bone-dry Rajiv Gandhi Stadium strip, the Punjab Kings skipper called correctly and put Sunrisers Hyderabad in. “The surface looks beautiful. There hasn’t been a single piece of grass since the time I have seen it,” he said after the toss, and a couple of team-sheet tweaks underlined his point.
Key inclusions
• Lockie Ferguson replaces Xavier Bartlett, the New Zealander offering more pace at the death.
• Shashank Singh, whose clever off-spin turned the reverse fixture, comes in for Nehal Wadhera, out of nick lately.
• Priyansh Arya, rested from the starting XI, is still expected to appear later as the Impact Player.
Cummins unfazed
Pat Cummins, relaxed as ever, shrugged off the toss. “I can’t read pitches – they all seem to be high-scoring here,” he smiled. SRH make just the one switch: Nitish Kumar Reddy is fit again and slots in for Aniket Verma. Harsh Dubey’s left-arm spin or an extra seamer remains on standby for Impact duties, depending on how this track behaves.
Form lines
Punjab have had a minor wobble – unbeaten through seven matches, then beaten twice on the bounce. Sunrisers were streaking with five straight wins before Kolkata Knight Riders tripped them up last time out. The previous PBKS-SRH meeting four weeks ago in New Chandigarh produced 440 runs; fifties from Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya and Iyer carried Kings to 220 with seven balls to spare.
What’s at stake?
Simple maths: Kings win and they stay top, nudging closer to a play-off ticket. Sunrisers win and they leapfrog Punjab into first place. With the league table concertina-ing, neither side fancies chasing Net Run Rate later in the month.

A par total? Probably north of 200 again, though dew – or the lack of it – could tilt the evening. Either way, plenty of runs look on offer, and both camps appear comfortable with that prospect.
