Gujarat Titans Face Critical Bowling Concerns Ahead of Playoffs

In a season where they swiftly secured a playoff spot, the Gujarat Titans (GT) are now confronting an unexpected slump in their bowling form. After a commendable run in IPL 2025, GT’s once-reliable bowling attack seems unsettled following the league’s brief pause. Having won eight of their first 11 games, GT has since lost two out of three matches after the resumption, conceding a hefty 664 runs while snaring just ten wickets.

Following a substantial defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Tom Moody highlighted the performance of R Sai Kishore, praising his consistency as he remains the only GT bowler to have taken a wicket in each of the recent games. “It is a concern that a number of their bowlers are losing form at the wrong time,” Moody pointed out on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out. “Coming into the finals, one area of your game you want to be absolutely confident with is your bowling attack.”

Moody’s observation wasn’t without nuance. He noted that while Prasidh Krishna, currently second in the Purple Cap race with 23 wickets, and Mohammed Siraj have contributed, their form appears inconsistent. “I think Sai Kishore has been quite consistent,” Moody continued, “but his efforts have been overshadowed because they haven’t been able to forge effective bowling partnerships.”

Anil Kumble concurred, citing GT’s challenges during the initial six-over powerplay, which has amplified pressure on their attack. The form of Rashid Khan, ordinarily a potent force, also raises questions. “That’s where the Rashid wicket-taking ability is missing now, and that’s why they’re probably struggling,” Kumble commented, highlighting how critical those early wickets are.

Moody proposed a strategic shift might be in order, suggesting that GT consider opening with Sai Kishore to add a new dimension to the attack. “Perhaps they should rearrange their bowling strategy,” Moody mused. “Opening with Sai Kishore could offer that difference.”

In light of these challenges, both Moody and Kumble stress the importance of maintaining composure and not overreacting as GT approaches the finals. The Titans must navigate these testing times with focus and adaptability, determining how best to utilise their available resources heading into the critical playoff phase.
